Way back in 2008, two friends, Andrew Stellhorn and Nick Hernandez were bored one night and most likely drinking homemade wine. If you were close to them, you would know that when they hung out, they came up with some pretty crazy, off the wall ideas. That night, they happened to be watching highlights of "The Masters". Since both have a passion for golf they got to brainstorming about having a tournament with friends, but with their own "Green Jacket".
Over the next couple of days, they surfed the internets looking for the perfect jackets and debated on the format of the tournament. After many discussions they came up with what we call today the "Whatever The Fuck You Want To Call It Golf Tournament". They decided to make it a simple two man scramble and found the most glorious, most coveted jackets in all the land.
2008 – Andrew and Nick did not have a great turn out for the first year, as they were the only ones to enter. They shot a solid three under, 68 at River Lakes Golf Course, to take the jackets and forever be shrined in the great history of the WTFYWTCI Golf Tournament. Congrats to the 2008 champions!
2009 – After a lot of marketing, they had a much better turnout for the second annual tournament with 8 teams. This year it was held at Triple Lakes in Milstadt. Matt Fehr & Ryan Kordys were hailed the winners after a tight scorecard playoff with returning champs Andrew & Nick. They finished with a new low score (at the time) of four under, 68. This was the year they also instituted the beer drinking trophy. Whoever drank the most beers as a team and was still able to turn in a scorecard was declared the winner. Jared Mudd & Shane Gregson came out on top with a staggering fumblin, stumblin, bumblin number of 36 beers. Congrats to all the 2009 champions!
2010 – The 3rd annual was dedicated to one of its creators “Final Days”. It was held on the same day as Andrew’s bachelor party at Fairfield Golf Course, put together by his best man, Nick. The flood gates were opened as teams almost doubled with 12 teams of friends and family. At the end of the round full of icings, laughter, and some terrorist bombers (insert sound effect here), Danny & Mike Liefer walloped the competition with the current lowest score record of six under, 65, beating six teams stuck at two under. Possibly the most surprising or maybe the most embarrassing for other teams was the winners of the beer trophy, Mark & Tim Stellhorn. After guzzling 32 beers together, they also somehow managed to shoot two under and finished tied for second with five other teams. Could they be the first to win both? Shane Gregson won the closest to the pin contest, hitting within a foot from the hole. Mr. "I haven't hit a good drive all day" Scott Meyer came in with the longest drive at approximately 365yds. Chris Schield got lucky and won the poker run also. Skins were awarded to: Hernandez/Stellhorn (birdie 3 on #2, birdie 2 on #4), Birke/Meyer (birdie 3 on #3), Gregson/Mudd (eagle 3 on #5), Huebner/Devall (eagle 2 on #9), and Liefer/Liefer (birdie 3 on #15). Congrats to all the 2010 champions.
